Bob Wilson (1939)

Bob Wilson was a standout in football, wrestling, baseball and track. During the 1938 season Wilson helped lead the Maroons go 8-1 to win their first Big 12 Conference title since 1926. CHS did not allow a single point in each of their eight wins. He played tackle for Champaign, but took his only handoff on a designed trick play and ran for the only touchdown of the game against Urbana in the 1938 Champaign victory. Wilson was an All-State tackle his senior year and was a two-time runner-up state champion at 185 pounds in wrestling. He played on Big 10 title teams at Purdue and Illinois and was a top collegiate wrestler. Bob was killed in a plane crash during the Korean War when his parachute failed to open fully.
