Carl Hubbard (1918)

Carl 'Dutch' Hubbard was a 1917 graduate of Champaign High and a football, basketball and track star, winning four letters on the gridiron, three on the court and three in track. He was selected as an All-State fullback in 1916 and in 1917 and captained the latter to an undefeated season. Hubbard played basketball 1916 through 1918 and was captain. With the honors of All-Tournament guard in 1916 and 1917 and an All-State member in 1918. He sparked the Maroons to the State championship tournaments in 1917 and 1918. Hubbard placed fourth in the hammer throw in the state track and field meet. Hubbard went on to be a swimming coach in Omaha, NE for many years and operated a recreational lodge near Wheatland, Wyoming.
