Chuck Coleman (1958):

Chuck Coleman was the No.2 rusher on the 1956 undefeated Champaign football team which ranked No. 1 in the state and is rated one of the greatest Champaign football teams of all time. He averaged 6.2 yards per carry and finished with 412 yards on 66 carries his junior year. His senior year he carried 51 times for 216 yards, a 4.2 average. Coleman had his best game as rushing, 147 yards, his junior year against Mooseheart. "I wish there was some way our whole 1956 team could go in. They were all excellent athletes and they were all fine people," Coleman said. He was a member of the 1957 basketball team which reached the Sweet Sixteen. Coleman was a record holder in the discus (16810) and shot put (5110) as a member of the Champaign track and field team. His discus throw recorded at the Urbana Relays, was the best in the state until the state finals and was the fourth-best toss of all-time by an Illinois prep. Coleman attended Bradley University, where he was a three-year football letterman as an offensive lineman. In track at Bradley, he took fourth in the discus in the 1960 Missouri Valley Conference meet. He was inducted into the Bradley Hall of Fame in 1984.
