Chuck Schrader (1954)

Chuck Schrader quarterbacked coach Tommy Stewart's first team to a 4-0-1 finish and the share of the Big 12 crown, gaining News Gazette All State honors in the process. Schrader was also named to the second team roster of the Chicago Daily News All-State squad. Stewart replaced Fred Major Sr. as head coach midway through the championship season. Schrader also starred in golf, taking the runner-up spot in the conference meet as a junior and the district meet as a senior. He earned two more letters in basketball and another in track and was named the school's Athlete of the Year in 1954. Graduating to Illinois, he earned two letters as a quarterback-linebacker in 1956-57 and played with greats like Ray Nitschke and Bobby Mitchell.
