Karl Dallenbach (1906)

Karl Dallenbach was a four-sport star for the Maroons shortly after the turn of the century and up to his graduation in 1906. He performed as a lineman two years and as a fullback his senior football season. In addition, he tossed the shot put in track, played guard on the basketball team and was catcher in baseball. Dallenbach went on to the University of Illinois where he was a varsity performer in track and football, playing guard on 1908 and 1909 teams which posted 5-1-1 and 5-2 records under Arthur R. Hall, predecessor to Bob Zuppke. Dallenbach later attended the University of Pittsburgh to obtain his masters degree, and also played football for one of the greatest teams in Pitt history. The Panthers of 1910 outscored nine opponents 282 to 0 and won the final game over Penn State, 11-0, as Dallenbach blocked a punt and scored a touchdown. In later years he was selected as a guard on Pitt's all-time all-star team.
