Katherine Townsend (1996)

 

Katie Townsend still owns the school's record in the discus, in which she placed fifth at the 1996 state meet. She was a two-time Big 12 champ in the discus and twice named team MVP. She qualified for the state meet four times in the event. In volleyball, she was a two-year letter-winner and a member of Central's 1995 team that won the Big 12, regional and sectional crowns. Katie also received the Patti Washburn Memorial Award for outstanding volleyball play. She was named the Seely Johnston Outstanding Female Athlete winner in 1996. Katie was recruited by the University of Florida Gators Women's Track and Field team. She attended UF, redshirting her freshman year and received her master's degree by the time she finished her collegiate career with the Gators in 2001. At the end of her college career, she was listed on the UF all-time outdoor top 10 list in the discus and hammer throw. Katie was one of only five UF women ever named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll during all four years of eligibility. She was a four-year letter winner at UF.
