Terrayel Cartmill (1995)

Terrayel Cartmill earned five varsity letters at Champaign, two in football and three in track and field. Cartmill was a two-year starting tailback and kickoff returner. During his junior season he led the Maroons, and the area, in rushing with 908 yards and 9 touchdowns, averaging 7.3 yards per carry and was a unanimous Big 12 All-Conference selection. During his senior year, Cartmill again led the team in rushing with 1077 yards and 15 touchdowns, including an 85-yard kickoff return. His 8.9 yards per carry is the best CHS has seen in years. His finest game of the season came in a 34-21 victory of Stephen Decatur as he gained 230 yards on 20 carries and scored four touchdowns (77, 9, 11, 3 yards). Terrayel accumulated 2057 total yards of offense and 25 touchdowns before he graduated from CHS He twice earned All-Conference and All-Area recognition. In track, Cartmill was a speedster. He was feared by many in the 100m and 200m dash. As a junior he placed third in the 200m dash at the indoor state meet. In his senior, hobbled by a knee injury, Terrayel ran a 46.1 second split to help the 4*400m relay team qualify for state.
