Thomas Folts (1979)

Tom Folts earned three letters in cross country and swimming and one letter in track. Folts was a member of the Centralís Big 12 champion 2-mile relay team, the District champion 2-mile relay team and a state finalist 2-mile relay team, running a 1:59.5 leg. In cross country, he was the 1977 twin city runner-up and All Big 12 Conference. In 1978, he was All-Big 12 Conference, finishing third in cross country. Folts was a dominant swimmer at Central. He was the 1979 Central Male Athlete of the Year (Seely Johnston Award). He was a 1977 All-American on the 400 free relay team (11th fastest time in the nation), and 1979 All-American Honorable Mention in the 500 freestyle. In 1977 he placed 4th in state in the 400 freestyle relay. In 1978 he placed 7th in the 200 freestyle, 8th in the 500 freestyle, and 7th in the 400 freestyle relay. In 1979, he placed 7th in the 200 freestyle, 4th in the500 freestyle and 9th in the 400 free relay. Central was the conference and sectional champions in 1977, 1978, 1979. At the University of Illinois, Folts lettered three years in swimming and was captain is senior year.
